Every two weeks, I will be sending out a roundup of jobs, freelance gigs, open calls, resources (and some inspiration) for creative professionals, communicators and storytellers in climate, conservation and sustainability. To learn more about this newsletter, read this.

ALT EFF X IMMERSE — Climate and ecological immersive projects
They are looking for immersive projects exploring climate realities, biodiversity, ecological justice and our relationship to the natural world. Your work could be a complete project or one nearing completion, and could use VR/AR/XR, spatial audio, projection mapping, or could be another form of interactive and multi-sensory work. Selected works will be showcased during the ALT EFF festival this December across Mumbai, Bangalore and Ahmedabad. Apply here.

DESEA Foundation — Nature and Humans Photography Competition
This is an international photography competition open to amateur and professional photographers worldwide. There are 15 award categories and prizes worth €17,000, including €10,000 in cash prizes .Check out the themes and apply here. BUT there’s an entry fee of €25. Read the rules here.

Sanctuary Nature Foundation — The Sanctuary Wildlife Photography Awards 2026
Theme this year is ‘Call of the Wild’. You can enter a maximum of 5 images taken anywhere on the Asian continent. There are a bunch of prizes, in cash and kind. You can find all the rules and the link to apply here.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT · GRANT
Pulitzer Center — Global South Civil Society Microgrants 2026
They are looking to support civic engagement projects in the Global South that use Pulitzer Center-supported journalism, particularly their climate and environment reporting, as inspiration in their work to create a more informed and empowered community. Activities could include community engagement, artistic expressions, public dialogue and other innovative projects. Grassroots organizations, community educators, civil society organizations, youth movements, and other groups working at the intersection of journalism, civic rights, and active citizenship are eligible to apply. JOURNALISM · FELLOWSHIP
Pulitzer Center — Ocean Reporting Network Fellowship
Freelance or staff journalists with experience in investigative work and a deep understanding of ocean issues can apply to join the Ocean Reporting Network. This is a year-long fellowship that includes funding for your reporting project, a community of peers, mentorship, and training opportunities. Here are all the details.
There is also an AMA session on September 1 (4:00pm GMT).
DEADLINE: September 13, 2026, at 11:59pm EDT
PAY: A reporter’s salary + additional reporting expenses of up to USD $10,000.
LOCATION: Open worldwide, but they say they “particularly welcome applications from the Global South, and seek more reporting in particular from Asia-Pacific and east Africa.”
CLIMATE COMMUNICATION · FELLOWSHIP
Gaialink — Climate Communication Fellowship
Applications for the second cohort are open for those aged 18-35. This is a six-week immersive program (6-10 hours per week) where fellows will be taught the science of climate change, understand the psychology behind climate inaction and craft climate communication strategies. Details are here. Program fee is 6,999 INR.
DEADLINE: September 2, 2026
LOCATION: Hybrid format, with hands-on field experiences in Delhi-NCR, India.

This one’s been doing the rounds recently, but in case you haven’t come across it yet, this a fascinating interactive look at Earth’s hidden fungal networks. SPUN published its Underground Atlas last year which was the first global map of mycorrhizal fungi and showed that over 90% fell outside protected areas.
